Well it's that time of the year again. Time to see if you have the clearest and most accurate crystal ball.
Last year I asked everyone to send me there 2004 MLB predictions. Unfortunately only 3 of us participated. Dave won with Geoff in second and Don a distant third.
So get your predictions ready, I'll be sending you all an email next week asking for your predictions. Once the season starts I'll post everyones picks here.
The point system will be the same as last year. (1)World Series Champions: 5 (2)NL and AL Champs: 4 (6)Division winners: 2 (2)Wild card teams: 1
In 2004 all 3 of us picked the Cubs to make it to the WS. Dave had the Red Sox winning, Geoff had the Yankees winning and I unfortunately had the Cubs beating the Red Sox. Who will be the most accurate in 2005.

With just under 60 games left to play. Here is how everyones predictions are looking and who has the best/worst chance of earning that extra 1st rd. draft pick.
After the August 1st games the division leaders were Red Sox, White Sox, Angels, Braves, Cardinals and Padres/Diamondbacks. The wild cards would be the A's and Astros.
So lets see who has the most leaders up to this point. and their would be point total
Marcel: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox, Angels = 10 Don: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox, Angels = 10 Geoff: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox = 8 BK: Braves, Cards, Angels = 6 Jordan: Cards, White Sox, Angels = 6 JoeC: Braves, Cards, Angels = 6 Dave: Padres, Angels = 4 JoeR: Cards, Angels = 4 Shawn: Cards, Angels = 4 Bryn: Angels = 2
How about the World Series Champs? Who's predicted champs are already chumps? Well nobody is out of it as of August 1st but the Marlins(JoeR), Cubs(Bryn) and Twins(Shawn) are the furthest back.
Who would have thought the White Sox would be so far in 1st so late in the season, oh wait! Jordan did!
Check the board every week or so for updates

With 30+ games left to play. The A's have taken 1st away from the Angels, as a result Geoff is now in the lead. Here is how everyones predictions are looking and who has the best/worst chance of earning that extra 1st rd. draft pick.
After the August 28th games the division leaders were Red Sox, White Sox, A's, Braves, Cardinals and Padres. The wild cards would be the Yankees and Phillies.
So lets see who has the most leaders up to this point. and their point total/WS Champs
Geoff: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox, A's,Yankees = 11 Red Sox Marcel: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox,Yankees = 9 Red Sox Don: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox,Yankees = 9 Braves BK: Braves, Cards, Phillies = 5 Yankees Jordan: Cards, White Sox, = 4 Cardinals JoeC: Braves, Cards, = 4 Cardinals JoeR: Cards, Phillies = 3 Marlins Shawn: Cards, = 2 Twins Dave: Padres, = 2 Yankees Bryn: = 0 Cubs
How about the World Series Champs? Who's predicted champs are already chumps? Well nobody is out of it as of August 28th but the Cubs(Bryn) and Twins(Shawn) are the furthest back.

With under 15 games left to play. The Red Sox, White Sox and Angels are barely holding on to their division leads. As a result the American league is a toss up as to who will take the divisions and who will earn the wild card. In the National the wild card race will most likely end with either the Astros, Phillies or Marlins at the top.
Here is how everyones predictions are looking and who has the best/worst chance of earning that extra 1st rd. draft pick?
After the September 18th games the division leaders were Red Sox, White Sox, Angels, Braves, Cardinals and Padres. The wild cards would be the Indians and Astros.
So lets see who has the most leaders up to this point. and their point total WS Champs Marcel: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox, Angels = 10 Red Sox Don: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox,Angels = 10 Braves Geoff: Braves, Cards, Padres, Red Sox = 8 Red Sox BK: Braves, Cards, Angels = 6 Yankees Jordan: Cards, White Sox, Angels = 6 Cardinals JoeC: Braves, Cards, Angels = 6 Cardinals JoeR: Cards, Angels = 4 Marlins Shawn: Cards, Angels = 4 Twins Dave: Padres, Angels = 4 Yankees Bryn: Angels = 2 Cubs
How about the World Series Champs? Who's predicted champs are already chumps? I think it's now safe to say that the Cubs and Twins won't be in the postseason. The Cardinals are so far the only team that as clinched a spot. They are also a heavy favorite to win the WS. Bryn and Marcel are the only ones to have picked the Indians as Central champs, will the Indians catch and pass Jordan's White Sox?? Geoff's A's still have a very good chance to catch everyone elses prediction of the Angels. Red Sox or Yankees, this will swing many points. Will the Sox hang on? Will they make the postseason? How about the Yankees? Will they be playing golf or baseball on October 4th?

With 5 games left to play. The Yankees, Red Sox, Indians and Red Sox are battling for the remaining 3 spots. As a result the American league is a toss up as to who will take the divisions and who will earn the wild card. In the National the wild card race will most likely end with the Astros on top but the Phillies still have a small chance.
Here is how everyones predictions are looking and who has the best/worst chance of earning that extra 1st rd. draft pick?
After the September 28th games the division leaders were Yankees, White Sox, Angels, Braves, Cardinals and Padres. The wild cards would be the Indians/Red Sox and Astros.
So lets see who has the most leaders up to this point. and their point total
BK: Braves, Cards, Angels,Yankees, RedSox = 9 Yankees Jordan: Cards, White Sox, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 9 Cardinals JoeC: Braves, Cards, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 9 Cardinals Marcel: Braves, Cards, Padres, Angels = 8 Red Sox Don: Braves, Cards, Padres, Angels = 8 Braves JoeR: Cards, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 7 Marlins Shawn: Cards, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 7 Twins Dave: Padres, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 7 Yankees Geoff: Braves, Cards, Padres = 6 Red Sox Bryn: Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 5 Cubs
How about the World Series Champs? Who's predicted champs are already chumps? The Cubs, Twins and Marlins are eliminated, so Bryn, Shawn and JoeR will need lots of luck. Marcel and Geoff have the Red Sox winning it all and BK and Dave have the Yankees not to mention everybody who has 1 of those teams losing in the WS. So is anyone watching the Red Sox and Yankees this week??
Bryn and Marcel are the only ones to have picked the Indians as Central champs, will the Indians catch and pass Jordan's White Sox??
BK and JoeR have the Phillies as their wild card pick. I don't think BK is actually cheering against the Astros!

The division winners are the Yankees, White Sox, Angels, Braves, Cardinals and Padres. The wild cards are the Red Sox and Astros.
Here are the standings: BK: Braves, Cards, Angels,Yankees, RedSox = 9 Jordan: Cards, White Sox, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 9 JoeC: Braves, Cards, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 9 Marcel: Braves, Cards, Padres, Angels = 8 Don: Braves, Cards, Padres, Angels = 8 JoeR: Cards, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 7 Shawn: Cards, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 7 Dave: Padres, Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 7 Geoff: Braves, Cards, Padres = 6 Bryn: Angels,Yankees,RedSox = 5
Looking strictly at the points you'd think anybody can still win BUT that's not the case. Lets take a look at who everyone has picked to make it to the World Series, starting with me.
NOBODY has the Astros(SHAME on you BK!!) and White Sox moving on.
Don, ELIMINATED 8: Braves over Red Sox Shawn, ELIMINATED 7: Twins over Marlins Dave, ELIMINATED 7: Yankees over Cubs Bryn, ELIMINATED 5: Cubs over Yankees Geoff, ELIMINATED 6: Red Sox over Cards (MAX 10) JoeR, ELIMINATED 7: Marlins over Angels (MAX 11) Marcel,ELIMINATED 8: Red Sox over Cards (MAX 12)
BK, can only tie at 9: Yankees over Braves
JoeC,GOOD CHANCE 9: Cards over Yankees (MAX 18) Jordan,THE FAVORITE 9: Cards over Angels (MAX 22)
So in reality only Jordan, JoeC and BK have a chance to win. If the Astros meet the White Sox in the World Series then BK, Jordan and JoeC tie at 9. If the Cards meet the White Sox in the World Series then Jordan and JoeC will tie at 13 or 18. If the Angels meet the Astros in the World Series then Jordan wins with 13. If the Cards meet the Angels in the World Series then Jordan wins at 17 or 22.
So since a tie is a possibility, we need a tie breaker. Luckily (for the pool's sake), I'm not involved, so I have decided that the tie breaker will be as follows. Just before the World Series start, I will need a list of 20 players from Jordan, JoeC and possibly BK listing your prediction for World Series MVP. You will rank them from 1 to 20, 1 being your 1st choice. Whoever has the MVP ranked highest wins.
Example: 1- David Ortiz 2- John Smoltz 3- Chipper Jones 4- Manny Ramirez . . 20- John Thomson
If there is still a tie, then I will meet with Dave and have a coin flip to determine who gets the pick.
